New Feature: Recipe FAQs That Answer Your Customers' Questions

Every recipe you publish brings the same few emails. Can I use frozen blueberries? Can I make the batter the night before? Does this sauce keep? You answer them one at a time, and the next person to cook the recipe has the same question and no answer on the page. Recipe FAQs put those answers where people look for them: on the recipe.

Add the questions and your answers in the recipe editor, and Recipe Kit shows them as a short numbered list under the recipe card. It also publishes them as FAQ structured data, the format search engines and AI assistants read, so your answers can travel with your recipe beyond your own store.

Recipe FAQs where customers already look

Someone halfway through a recipe doesn't email you. They scroll. If the answer about frozen blueberries is right there under the method, they keep cooking. If it isn't, some of them give up, and the jar of your syrup they bought for it sits in the cupboard.

The FAQs sit below the recipe notes, every answer shown in full with nothing to click open. Each recipe can hold up to 20 questions, and you can reorder them so the one people ask most comes first. Answers can include bold text, lists and links, so "Which chili crisp should I use?" can point straight to the one you sell.

Answers search engines and AI assistants can read

People ask AI assistants cooking questions as well as typing them into a search box. Those assistants answer from pages they can read, and they read structured data well. Recipe Kit writes your FAQs into the page as a FAQPage block next to the recipe's own structured data, in the HTML itself, so crawlers that don't run JavaScript can read every question and answer.

Write each answer so it makes sense on its own. An assistant may quote one answer without the rest of the page, so "Yes, up to 3 months in the freezer" works and "See step 4" doesn't. FAQs also count toward the recipe's SEO Score in Recipe Kit. Its Answer Engine part is full at three questions, so you can see when a recipe has enough.

Add them to every recipe at once

If you have a hundred recipes, you're not opening each one. Recipe Kit's CSV export includes a faqs column. Export your recipes, fill in the questions in a spreadsheet, and import the file again. Storage, substitutions and make-ahead questions repeat across most of a catalogue, so the same few answers fill a lot of rows.

FAQs translate with the rest of the recipe in Shopify's Translate & Adapt app, so a store that sells in French can answer in French.

Questions worth answering

  • What you get emailed about. Substitutions, storage and make-ahead come up for nearly every dish. Start there.
  • Your product, by name. "Which olive oil works best here?" is a fair question on a recipe built around the one you press.
  • The one that saves the dish. "Why did my cookies spread?" with "The butter was too warm, chill the dough for 30 minutes" turns a failed bake into a second try.
  • Yes or no first. Start the answer with "Yes", "No" or the number, then explain. It reads faster, and it quotes better.

Getting it

Recipe FAQs are part of the Growth plan. Open any recipe in Recipe Kit and scroll to Frequently asked questions, below Notes. FAQs you add keep showing on your store if you ever change plans. The recipe FAQs help article covers the limits, the CSV format and translations.

Your customers are already asking. Now the answer can be waiting for them on the recipe. Get Recipe Kit on the Shopify App Store and add your first FAQ.
