Recipe Email Capture Turns Your Recipe Readers Into Shopify Subscribers
Someone finds your maple chipotle sweet potatoes on Pinterest, cooks them on a Tuesday night, and loves them. Then they close the tab, and you never hear from them again. Recipe email capture gives that reader a reason to stay in touch, at the moment they want something from you.
Recipe Kit's email capture gate blurs a recipe's directions behind a short signup form. The ingredients, the photo and the rest of the recipe card stay readable. To see the steps, the reader leaves their email address, and the directions appear right there on the page. Each signup becomes a customer in your Shopify admin, subscribed to email marketing.

Ask when they want the recipe most
A newsletter popup on your homepage asks for an email before a shopper knows why they would want your emails. The recipe gate asks once the reader has decided to cook. They have read the ingredients, they want the method, and an email address is a fair price for it.
It works the same on a phone, which is where most people read a recipe while they cook. The form stays in view as they scroll, and once they sign up or skip, their browser remembers, so they never see it twice on your store.

A No thanks, show me the recipe link lets readers skip the form. You can turn it on or off in your settings.
Subscribers land in Shopify, not another tool
Recipe Kit doesn't keep an email list, and it never emails your readers. We built the gate so every signup goes straight into Shopify as a customer with email marketing consent, tagged recipe-optin and recipekit. Shopify Email can reach them the same day, and email platforms that sync your Shopify customers pick them up from there.

The tag is the useful part. Build a segment or a welcome flow on recipe-optin and you know where these people came from. They found you through a recipe, so they cook, and they have already seen one of your products in action.
See which recipes grow your list
Tools > Email signups shows how many readers signed up on each recipe and when the last one did. Export one recipe or all of them as a spreadsheet, with each subscriber's current marketing status read from Shopify at the time you export.

Pageviews tell you which recipes people read. Signups tell you which recipes make people want more from you. If one recipe brings in three times the signups of the rest, write more like it, and put the product it uses in your welcome email.
Recipe email capture keeps your recipe SEO
The blur is only for people. The directions stay in the page and in the recipe schema, so Google reads every step of your Shopify recipe blog the same way it did before you turned the gate on.
Ideas to try
- A welcome email with the product. Someone who signed up on your chipotle recipe gets a note with the chipotle powder and one more recipe that uses it.
- A consent line in your own words. Replace the default with what you will really send, like "One new recipe every Friday, and first dibs on new spice blends." People sign up for promises they believe.
- A recipe series. Send new subscribers the next dish in the set, so the recipe that brought them in is the start of something.
- A monthly check on signups. Export once a month and see which recipes earn subscribers, then give those recipes more room on your blog and in your product pages.
Getting it
The email capture gate is part of the Growth plan. Open Recipe Kit, go to Settings, expand Advanced and turn on Enable email capture gate. Shopify asks you to let Recipe Kit create customers, which is how signups reach your admin. The email capture gate help article covers setup, the text you can change and the export.
Your recipes already bring food lovers to your store. Give them a way to stay. Get Recipe Kit on the Shopify App Store.
